Description:
We seek an individual specializing in teaching and empirical research in L2 oral
communication. Duties will include teaching courses in the MA-TESL program, the
applied linguistics doctoral program, and the English undergraduate program.
Duties will also include research, advising and mentoring, and department,
university, and community service. The successful candidate will work closely
with international students and graduate students. Review of files will begin
February 1, 2007.

Minimum qualifications: 
1)  Experience in ESL speaking/listening methodology evidenced by at least one
of the following: dissertation topic, course taught in speaking/listening
methodology, 2 national presentations on speaking/listening topic 
2)  At least 1 refereed publication in an applied linguistics' journal such as
TESOL Quarterly, System, Applied Linguistics 
3)  Expressed desire to teach undergraduate, MA, and PhD courses 
4)  PhD in applied linguistics or related field in hand by time of appointment
(August, 2007)

Preferred qualifications:
1)  Training/experience in areas such as oral proficiency assessment, ESL
pronunciation, spoken discourse analysis, or pragmatics
2)  Empirical research agenda in oral communication as evidenced by grant
activities, publications, and/or experience in classroom-based research,
training studies, L2 measurement/testing
3)  Development of ESL CALL applications and on-line data collection
4)  Two years EFL/ESL teaching experience 
5)  L2 teacher training experience
6)  Experience in developing and teaching Web courses
7)  Candidate must demonstrate commitment in working with diverse populations

About Applied Linguistics in Flagstaff:
The Applied Linguistics faculty, in the English Department at Northern Arizona
University, are active scholars, teachers and mentors, and professionals. Our
primary teaching mission is to serve the students in two graduate programs: the
Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA-TESL) and the Doctor
of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics (PhD AL). We graduate about 20 MA-TESL
students and 4 PhD students each year.  Through our undergraduate courses, we
serve BA English and BS Ed English Education majors/minors, and those seeking a
broader education through our Liberal Studies courses. We also train students in
our Program in Intensive English. Flagstaff is a friendly city with a population
of about 57,000. It is nestled at the base of the majestic San Francisco
Peaks—about 140 miles north of Phoenix. With its elevation of 7,000 feet and
four-season climate, Flagstaff is ideal for year-round outdoor activities.
Northern Arizona University has a student population of about 20,000 with a
solid reputation
as a university with all the features of a large institution but with a personal
touch.
