The Interuniversity Institute of Modern Applied Languages (http://www.iulma.es) will host the Ist Conference on Modern Applied Languages, which will be held May 3-5, 2006 at the University of Alicante, Spain.
Conference Aims:
- To assess the current scene of Academic and Professional languages as far as research and university studies are concerned from an interdisciplinary perspective.
- To consider future research trends in the field of Applied Languages in order to develop knowledge and promote theoretical and applied innovation.
- To disseminate among the scientific and academic community the research and didactic contents and principles addressed in this Conference via the publication of papers.

SCHEDULE AND AIMS OF SESSIONS
The conference will be organised as follows:
- General morning sessions: papers, plenary sessions and round tables dealing with different aspects of professional and academic languages.
- Specialised afternoon sessions intended for teachers and postgraduate students and for undergraduate students.
CONTENTS
Papers will address general topics relating to academic and professional languages in the 21st century.
Plenary sessions will deal with specific aspects of research carried out in the area of modern languages which can be directly applied to different fields of knowledge, such as industry or law.
Round tables will examine, from different points of view, potential research trends in the area of professional and applied languages according to the real needs of today's society.
Afternoon sessions will be divided into research seminars focusing on methodology and research aimed mainly at professionals, teachers and postgraduate students, and practical seminars aimed at undergraduate students and professionals.
Research seminars will study methodological and didactic aspects of research on modern applied languages.
Practical seminars will focus on the acquisition of professional and academic communication strategies in very specific areas, such as writing technical texts in the field of advertising or law, the application of computer tools for the study of linguistics, etc.
In keeping with the interdisciplinarity of the IULMA, all speakers will be prominent professionals or academics in their own field.
