2nd CALL FOR DEMOS
EACL 2006 Workshop on
Multi-dimensional Markup in Natural Language Processing:
5th Workshop on NLP and XML (NLPXML-2006)
http://ilps.science.uva.nl/nlpxml2006/
April 4, 2006, Trento, Italy
Submission deadline: January 31, 2006
The EACL 2006 Workshop on Multi-dimensional Markup in
Natural Language Processing will be hosted in conjunction
with the 11th Conference of the European Chapter of the
Association for Computational Linguistics, which will take
place April 3-7, 2006, in Trento, italy.
This workshop is also the fifth in the NLPXML series, following
workshops at NLPRS 2001 in Tokyo, COLING 2002 in Taipei,
EACL 2003 in Budapest, and ACL 2004 in Barcelona.
* TOPICS
The widespread adoption of XML within the NLP community as the
main standard for both data and meta-data representation has led
to research in a number of issues relating to XML and NLP. One
particularly interesting challenge arises from the difficulty in
combining annotations resulting from disparate NLP systems in a
single hierarchical structure. For downstream applications that
rely on a range of linguistic annotations, problems such as crossing
boundaries and overlapping elements from different sources make it
difficult to query data with multiple dimensions of annotation.
As part of this workshop, we solicit demo presentations of tools and
applications that provide access to multiple layers of linguistic
annotation, as well as multi-dimensional XML processing systems that
may be applicable to research in computational linguistics. We also
welcome, more generally, presentations of natural language processing
systems that have successfully met the challenge of integrating
multiple levels of XML markup as part of their data representation.
* DEMO SUBMISSIONS
Demo presenters must submit a description of their demo (up to 4
pages, including screenshots). Submissions should be formatted
using the EACL 2006 stylefiles with overt author and affiliation
information. The EACL 2006 stylefiles are available at
http://eacl06.itc.it/submission/submission.htm
Please send your PDF file no later than January 31, 2006, to
ahn (at) science.uva.nl
The workshop organizers are unable to provide computing equipment for
demonstration purposes; if your demo submission is accepted, you are
expected to bring your own laptop on which the demonstration can be
shown. In your email message, please include details on the facilities
you need for your demonstration (internet connection, beamer, etc.)
Each demo submission will be reviewed by at least two members of
the programme committee. Accepted demo descriptions will be
published in the workshop proceedings. As the schedule is extremely
tight, there will only be a very short time available for revision of
accepted descriptions; please try to make your submissions
publication-ready.
(Please note that the deadline for paper submissions has passed;
this call concerns demo descriptions only.)
* REGISTRATION
Information on registration and registration fees will be provided at
the conference web page.
* IMPORTANT DATES
January 31, 2006 - Deadline for demo descriptions
February 7, 2006 - Notification of acceptance
February 10, 2006 - Camera-ready descriptions due
April 4, 2006 - Workshop
As the schedule is extremely tight, deadline extensions are NOT
possible.

Analysis; Text/Corpus Linguistics
Call Deadline: 30-Apr-2006
First Call for Papers
Konvens is a conference on natural language processing that is held every two
years in either Germany or Austria. The conference is supported by 6
organizations (DEGA, DGfS, GI, GLDV, ITG, OEGAI), each of which takes turns in
organizing the conference.
This year Konvens06 is organized by the DGfS-CL (the Computational Section of
the German Linguistics Society) and will be held at the University of Konstanz,
October 4-7.
Konvens welcomes papers, posters or system demonstrations on any subject within
speech and natural language processing. This year, in particular, the focus
will be on discourse processing and a satellite workshop on rhetorical relations
as developed in SDRT (Segmented Discourse Representation Theory) will take place
around the time of the conference.
Talks can be held in German or English (written contributions can also be either
in German or English).
Deadline for submission of papers/posters/demos: April 30, 2006.
Notification of Acceptance: May 31, 2006
Length: Paper submissions should not exceed more than 8 pages, poster and demo
submissions should not exceed more than 4 pages.
Format: Please use 11pt and submit your paper/poster/demo proposal in either
pdf or ps to konvens06 at uni-konstanz.de
More Information on Konvens and the supporting organizations can be found on the
conference website:
