Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Victoria invites applications
for a two-year appointment as a Limited Term Assistant Professor in syntax and
First Nations languages, effective 1 July 2006. Applicants should have a solid
background in syntactic theory combined with successful experience in
community-based research of a First Nations language or languages. Duties will
include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in syntax and First Nations
languages and linguistics, and MA and PhD student supervision. Possible
additional research areas might include morphology / lexical theory, language
revitalization, semantics, or sociolinguistics. Collaborative, interdisciplinary
research and teaching are encouraged, for example through participation in the
activities of the Vancouver Island Salish Language Revitalization CURA grant and
other research and teaching programs of the Department. Candidates are expected
to have a PhD in Linguistics, a demonstrated record of research
achievement, and a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and
graduate teaching.
