Description:

In the context of the newly founded Collaborative Research Center
(Sonderforschungsbereich) 732 'Incremental specification in context' funded
by the DFG, the following positions are available at the University of
Stuttgart: 

1. Project A2 (principal investigators: Bernd Moebius & Hinrich Schuetze)
1 full position for a phonetician or speech researcher with PhD in hand;
familiarity with experimental methods in phonetics; strong interest in
modelling the perception-production loop in the framework of Exemplar Theory. 

1 half position for a researcher with a strong background in statistics;
interest in multidimensional distance measures and computational modelling;
may be combined into a full BAT IIa position with the corresponding
position in D5 (Schuetze).

2. Project B2 (principal investigator: Martin Becker)
1 half position. Required: very good knowledge of French and Italian;
familiarity with current linguistic theories (lexical semantics,
morphology, syntax); familiarity with older stages of Romance languages
(especially Old French); ability to use corpora.

3. Project B5 (principal investigator: Achim Stein)
1 full position for a linguist with excellent/native competence of French;
experience in lexical semantics, preferably also DRT; desired: experience
with ontologies and tools for designing ontologies, basic knowledge of
computational linguistics. 

1 half position for a computational linguist with experience in
object-oriented languages (Java, C++) and script languages (Perl); desired:
knowledge of French, knowledge in semantics, experience with ontology tools
(e.g. Protege).

4. Project C2 (principal investigator: Klaus von Heusinger) 
1 full position. Required: expertise in semantics and strong interest in
comparative research and in Differentiated Object Marking languages. The
successful applicant will develop a pertinent questionnaire, supervise
other researchers working with this questionnaire, and integrate their
results into a coherent semantic framework.

5. Project D1 (principal investigator: Uwe Reyle) 
1 position (full time or half time) for a computational linguist or
linguist with good knowledge of algorithmic Syntax and/or Semantics of
underspecification.

6. Project D5 (principal investigator: Hinrich Schuetze)
1 full position for a computer scientist, computational linguist or
researcher from a related field, ideally with completed PhD; familiarity
with machine learning approaches to NLP; interest in linguistically
motivated models. 

1 half position for a computational linguist with experience in statistical
parsing and a strong background in non-discrete mathematics. Position may
be combined with BAT IIa/2 position in A2.

The salary for the full positions is based at the BATIIa scale, for the
half positions at the BATIIa/2 scale. The positions start July 1, 2006 and
last 4 years.
