Dear LINGUIST Readers,
Effective June 1, stewardship of the LINGUIST List Book Reviews unit has been
handed over from our University of Arizona team to the University of California,
Berkeley team. The new Reviews Editor is Laura Buszard-Welcher of the Rosetta
Project; and she will be assisted by Chas Warner, a Berkeley graduate student.
For contact information for the new team, a list of books available for review,
and guidelines for reviewing books on LINGUIST List, please see:

As many of you no doubt are already aware, longtime LINGUIST List Book Reviews
Manager Terry Langendoen has accepted a position as the new Program Director for
Cyberinfrastructure and Linguistics in the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive
Sciences at the National Science Foundation. Terry has been at the helm of
LINGUIST List Book Reviews since 2001, and was also a co-principal investigator
of the LINGUIST-led E-MELD (Electronic Metastructure for Endangered Languages
Data) project that started in 2001 with funding from the National Science
Foundation. Since 2003, he has been serving on the Advisory Panel for the
Linguistics Program of the National Science Foundation. Most recently, Terry
sportingly lent his voice and image (both which we shamelessly manipulated for
comic effect) to LINGUIST List's 2006 Fund Drive efforts. So, for many reasons,
LINGUIST owes Terry hearty thanks.
Sheila Dooley, Terry's co-editor of LINGUIST reviews, also deserves our earnest
thanks. Sheila has been a part of the Reviews team for four years, handling
much of the correspondence and taking responsibility for much of the 'quality
control', which has resulted in substantive, professional reviews on the LL
site. Sheila also had a major part in supervising Lindsay Butler, the U. of
Arizona graduate student who was a valued member of the reviews team, and of the
LINGUIST List crew. Lindsay continues as a second-year Ph.D. student in
Linguistics at U. of Arizona, while Sheila will be concentrating on research and
publishing. It is with long faces and heartfelt gratitude that we bid our
friends Terry, Sheila and Lindsay a fond farewell.
