Two Research Assistantships for AHRC-funded project on Romance historical
morphology.

ACADEMIC-RELATED RESEARCH-STAFF GRADE 1A: £20,044 - £30,002 (subject to
review from 1 August 2006 as part of the implementation of the National
Framework Agreement for staff in higher education).

The Faculty seeks to recruit two Research Assistants to work on a new
four-year AHRC-funded project entitled 'Autonomous Morphology in Diachrony:
comparative evidence from the Romance languages'.  These fixed-term posts
are available from 1 October 2006 for four years (the starting date may be
negotiable). 

The Research Assistants will help gather and evaluate the project's corpus
of Romance inflectional data.  They will help oversee presentation of the
database on the project's website and they will familiarize themselves with
developments in morphological theory and Romance Linguistics.  They will
help co-ordinate arrangements for international Workshops connected to the
project.  They will also be required to participate regularly in various
classes and meetings in connection with the project, and may be asked to
participate in fieldwork visits abroad.

Candidates should have a good knowledge of more than one Romance language.
 It is intended to appoint one Research Assistant with particular knowledge
of 'western' Romance varieties (Ibero-Romance, Gallo-Romance,
Raeto-Romance) and another with particular knowledge of 'eastern' Romance
varieties (Italo-Romance, Romanian, etc.).  The successful candidates
should possess a higher degree (normally PhD), and research experience in
linguistics.  Knowledge of morphological theory and/or dialectology will be
an advantage, although specific training will be provided.  The candidates
should have good IT skills.
