We are pleased to announce the 2006 BIDE (Bilbao-Deusto) Student Conference in Linguistics. The aim of BIDE is to serve as rendezvous for new generations of academics from all areas of linguistic research (Theoretical, Experimental, Applied, and Computational Linguistics). BIDE provides students a welcoming atmosphere where they can present their own work and get feedback from peers as well as senior researchers.

Abstracts are due on or before April 8, 2006. Your proposal should describe original, unpublished work that may be in progress. Authors are limited to maximum of one individual and one joint submission (papers co-authored with faculty will not be accepted). Send your abstract as a PDF or WORD file to bide at fil.deusto.es with 'abstract submission' in the subject field. The abstract should be anonymous and abide by the following specifications: do not exceed two pages (examples and references included); use 1 inch (2.54 cms) margins on all sides; and a 12 point size font (preferably Times New Roman). Include your name(s), title of the paper, affiliation(s) and contact information in the email body and indicate what area of linguistics your contribution fits in best, e.g. morphology, phonetics, phonology, semantics, syntax and so on. 

Notification of acceptance will be sent around the first week of May. Accepted papers are allowed 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

The papers presented at BIDE'06 are eligible for publication in the International Journal of Basque Linguistics. The deadline for submitting papers will be announced at the conference.

The conference is undertaken by Human-Computer Intelligence Research Center, ShenYang Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (SYIAE), and is scheduled to take place in SYIAE during Aug. 16 - 18 this year. As consuetudinary, "the Second Countrywide Seminar On Computational Linguistics" (topic pending) by "Professional Committee on Computational Linguistics of the Chinese Information Processing Society of China" will be held at the same place after this workshop.

For those PHD candidates, graduate and undergraduate students researching on CL and related fields, registration fee will be exempted (traveling expenses and accommodating fee not included). All fees for students who come from depressed areas will be reimbursed. However, the seminar lectures after the workshop will be charged reasonably. 

Professors and researchers in related fields are all welcomed. Several papers will be selected as excellent ones, be awarded at this workshop and will be recommended to the Journal of Chinese Information Processing for publication.

In this workshop, we are attempting to invite students and experts from foreign countries. Meanwhile, Chinese students studying abroad are encouraged to attend the workshop. Partial financial support may be provided for them. In order to promote mutual understanding between students and CL related companies, we also prepare to invite several famous IT companies for product exhibitions and technical reports, as well as face-to-face communications. 

''Student Workshop on Computational Linguistics'' is a serial academic workshop initiated by the Chinese Information Processing Society of China (CIPSC). It is held every two years, aimed to strengthen the academic communication and cooperation among students on Computational Linguistics (CL), to promote the applications and studies of CL in China, and to help improving the CL education level in China. All activities of this workshop are organized by students.  Besides academic presentations as usual, there will be sessions where students could have face-to-face communications with experienced researchers in CL and with representatives from various enterprises and companies, so that to make the workshop more effective.

The previous two workshops have been successfully hosted by the Institute of Computational Linguistics, Peking University, in Aug. 2002(SWCL 2002), and by the Institute of Information Processing, Beijing Language and Culture University, in Aug. 2004(SWCL 2004). Paper Requirements
-	The paper should be fluent and clear in presentation and original in theory or application.
-	The paper should not be previously published or under review of other peer reviewed venues. It should contain no more than 8,000 characters and written in Chinese or English. The cover page should contain paper title, author names, the addresses, email addresses and an abstraction (no more than 200 characters) in both Chinese and English. Paper must be formatted according to the instructions in the example paper.
-	Some excellent papers will be awarded at the workshop and recommended to the Journal of Chinese Information Processing.
