The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: University of Potsdam
Department: Linguistics
Job Rank: Assistant Professor
Specialty Areas: Semantics
Description:
The Linguistics Department of the University of Potsdam invites applications for
the position of a 'junior professor' (roughly equivalent to an assistant
professor) in the field of semantics. The position has been created in order to
strengthen the contribution of semantics to the Sonderforschungsbereich
(Collaborative Research Center) 632 focusing on information structure
(http://www.ling.uni-potsdam.de/sfb). Applicants therefore should not only have
a strong background in formal semantics, they must also be willing to actively
cooperate with the SFB 632, both in the form of an individual research project
and in a contribution to the joint research enterprise.
Applicants must have a PhD, they are expected to have published in the field of
information structure and semantics.
The law of the state of Brandenburg imposes the requirement that only those
applicants should be considered for the position of a junior professor who
started working on their PhD less than six years ago. The reference point for
this requirement is the day of the advertisement of the job. The six-years
period stands in the context of an academic system with a three year
dissertation time, so for other academic systems, it roughly translates into the
requirement that no more than three years should have passed since the
completion of the dissertation. The details of this formal requirement are quite
complex and allow some exceptions, so people interested in the position who are
not sure whether they are eligible or not should contact us.
The University of Potsdam encourages the application of women. If you need more
information, don't hesitate to contact fanselow at uni-potsdam.de
This text is just meant to inform linguists about the availability of the
position. It is not identical with the official advertisement which is the only
legally relevant text. The official advertisement can be found (very soon) under
http://uni-potsdam.de/verwaltung/dezernat3/stellen/index.html,
and in the issue of DIE ZEIT published on March 9th.
Your applications must be sent within four weeks to the address below.
