The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Subject: Modified: Syntax: Post Doc, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Netherlands
University or Organization: Universiteit van Amsterdam
Job Rank: Post Doc
Specialty Areas: Linguistic Theories; Syntax
Description:
The Universiteit van Amsterdam seeks to fill a Post Doc-position in
linguistics. It forms a part of the overall project 'The origins of truth
and the origins of the sentence' recently funded by the Netherlands
Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO) and directed by Dr. Wolfram
Hinzen. The overall project, which consists of three subprojects, deals
with the origin and nature of propositional thought and its relation to the
human faculty of language. The task of the subproject relevant to this
announcement is a contribution to our understanding of sentence syntax and
the sentence/NP distinction specifically, sentential structures being the
only ones that are evaluable for truth (as distinct from reference).
Generally speaking, the aim is to better understand how propositionality,
truth, and reference are syntactically coded.
Requirements
Relevant candidates must have a PhD in Linguistics and a background in
generative syntax. An interest in linguistic theory, the foundations of
language, and the evolution of language are essential; some interest or
competence in philosophy is a plus, but no requirement.
Appointment
This is a 3-year, full-time position. The gross monthly salary will be in
accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel, and will
range from EUR 2,639 to a maximum of EUR 3,472 gross per month.
