Crash Course in Neurolinguistics
18 Apr 2006 - 20 Apr 2006
Tromsø, Norway
This is a three-day graduate-level introduction to neurolinguistics, which will
be followed by a two-day workshop on neurolinguistics (see separate posting at
http://linguistlist.org/issues/17/17-783.html). PhD students in Norway can get
credit for this course. Others may also register to attend at the website.
Schedule:
Tu: 10.15-12.00 & 14.15-16.00:
COLIN PHILLIPS, UMCP 1. Cognitive neuroscience for linguist(ic)s 2. Levels of
representation in the neural encoding of speech.
Wed:10.15-12.00 & 14.15-16.00:
COLIN PHILLIPS, UMCP 3. Two questions about syntax and specialization in the
brain. 4. The electrophysiology of syntax and the architecture of language
processing
Th: 09.15-12.30:
LIINA PYLKKÄNEN, NYU: What we know about the neural bases of semantic
interpretation (an introduction to MEG as a technique, including a comparison to
ERPs; then an overview of what we currently know about the neural bases of
semantic interpretation, including the electrophysiology, imaging and MEG
literatures)
Th: 14.15-17.30:
ALEC MARANTZ, MIT: The Mental Lexicon in the Decomposing Brain (evidence about
the neural representation of morphology and arguments for morphological
