Abstract:

In de eerste periode na een CVA (de acute fase) kunnen afasiepatiënten een
zekere mate van spontaan herstel doormaken. Er bestaat een groeiende
behoefte aan meer kennis over dit spontane herstel. Opmerkelijk genoeg is
er nog maar weinig onderzoek op dit gebied verricht. Dit komt niet alleen
doordat de acute fase een korte en vrij chaotische periode is, waarin het
verzamelen van voldoende onderzoeksgegevens vaak niet mogelijk is. Ook de
beschikbare onderzoeksmaterialen zijn nog niet voldoende afgestemd op de
acute fase, waardoor veel patiënten niet goed kunnen worden onderzocht.

Dit proefschrift beschrijft een onderzoek met als doel meer inzicht te
krijgen in wat er tijdens en na de acute fase gebeurt in de taal van
afasiepatiënten, aan de hand van analyses van spontane-taalinterviews en
resultaten op een aantal taaltests. Centraal staat daarbij het contrast
tussen de acute en de chronische fase, en tussen de verschillende
herstelperioden. Ook wordt gekeken naar de samenhang tussen de resultaten
op de verschillende meetinstrumenten. Het unieke aan dit onderzoek is de
grote rol die objectieve spontane-taalmaten spelen bij de beantwoording van
de onderzoeksvragen.

Elf CVA-patiënten met afasie, bij wie spontane-taalinterviews en taaltests
werden afgenomen in de acute fase en voor zover mogelijk ook in de
chronische fase, zijn voor dit onderzoek zowel individueel als groepsmatig
bestudeerd. De resultaten van deze studie kunnen mogelijk meer licht werpen
op enkele kwesties die uit de onderzoeksliteratuur naar voren kwamen, zoals
"in welke periode vindt het meeste spontane herstel van afasie plaats?".
Daarnaast worden er aanbevelingen gedaan voor toekomstig taalonderzoek in
de acute fase.
