Description:

There will be two fully funded PhD positions available in 2007. Candidates
will start on September 1st 2007. In order to enter the selection procedure
you can either submit your own proposal before December 8th 2006, or apply
as a candidate for an existing project proposal. The projects for which you
can apply will be advertised in the beginning of 2007 (March/April). More
detailed information about these two types of application are given below.

Types of application for the two funded positions.
1. You can apply for one of the 2 PhD positions to be filled per September
1st 2007 by submitting your own proposal before December 8th 2006. How to
submit your own proposal is described in the document on the ACLC website
(www.hum.uva.nl/aclc under PhD candidates/ How to become a PhD candidate at
the ACLC and then submitting your own proposal). NB You must very quickly
make contact with your intended supervisor(s).
2. You can apply for one of the  2 PhD positions to be filled per September
1st 2007 by applying for an existing project proposal to be advertised in
the beginning of 2007. The Guidelines for how to apply and the exact
deadlines will by then be on the ACLC website ((www.hum.uva.nl/aclc under
PhD candidates/ How to become a PhD candidate at the ACLC and then
Guidelines for applying for an internal PhD position, 2007).

Tasks
The PhD student needs to carry out the research within three years in the
case of a financed position and needs to write a dissertation. 
External PhD students are expected to carry out their research within a
period of 3 to 5 years, and need to write a dissertation.

Requirements
MA in linguistics (or equivalent), obtained no longer than five years ago.

PhD candidates).
NB Incomplete applications will be automatically rejected so please read
the guidelines carefully.

Position
The internal PhD student will be appointed for a period of three years
(full time) at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam
under the terms of employment currently valid for the Faculty. A contract
will be given in the first instance for one year, with an extension for the
following two years on the basis of an evaluation of, amongst other things,
a written piece of work. It is possible to work part-time (min.75%).
The external PhD student will be registered as an official member of the
ACLC once the application has been approved.

Submissions
Submissions of a project proposal of your own should be sent before
December 8th, 2006 to the director of the ACLC, Prof. Dr. A.E. Baker.
Applications received after this date or those that are incomplete will not
be taken into consideration.
The deadline for application for an existing project proposal will be
announced later on this site.
Applications for external positions can be made at any time.
