Meeting Description:

Ever since its creation, nine years ago, the ED268 Young Researchers'
Meetings, at Sorbonne Nouvelle University, offers young graduates in the
field of linguistics and language teaching a possibility to introduce their
work in a context that favours the exchange of ideas.

The subject for this year is: Norms, variations, identity, otherness. 

Call for papers

These four notions are often encountered by researchers within the realm of
Humanities., and they seem to represent a particular feature within the
domain of linguistics, as they often introduce fundamental questions such as:

- Is it possible to consider a norm -or norms-, within the field of
linguistics?
- What is the scope of these notions in terms of the scientific
methodologies in Humanities?
- What kind of interaction can be considered between norms and their
specific applications?
- Is it possible to consider variation without referring it to a norm? Is
it possible to consider otherness without confronting it with a specific
identity? 

Papers will either explore epistemological perspectives or analyse a corpus
or set of corpora. The meeting aims to confront different theoretical
standpoints, in order to establish a dialogue between the different parts:
discourse analysis, interaction analysis, language teaching, phonetics and
phonology, natural language processing, sociolinguistics, morpho-syntax,
corpus linguistics, descriptive linguistics, semantics, lexicology,
lexicography, and any other domains of research within the realm of
linguistics.
Two formats will be accepted: oral presentations and posters. In either
case, abstracts will be submitted to the scientific committee for examination.

Dates:

-Friday, 8th of December 2006: Last date to hand in abstracts of oral
presentations (1000 words) and posters (500 words)

Friday, 16th of February 2007: Committee's resolutions after examination of
papers.

Saturday, 12th of May 2007: ED 268 Young Researchers' Meeting
- Monday, 11th of June 2007: Articles submitted for publication.

Submissions:

Proposals for oral communications will be presented according to the
following format requirements: Times New Roman font, size 12, single
spaced, abstract of 1000 words maximum (references included). Proposals for
posters will be presented according to the following format requirements:
abstract of 500 words maximum (references included). For any articles
containing phonetic transcriptions, please use SILDoulos font, downloadable
at http://www.sil.org/computing/catalog/show_software.asp?id=91.
Papers will be submitted by e-mail, in two copies in a .rtf format: the
first copy will be saved as anon_surname-of-the-author_rjc2007.rtf (for
example anon_WRIGHT_rjc2007.rtf ). It will contain:
- The title;
- 5 keywords;
- The domain;
- The abstract.

The second copy will be saved as  surname-of-the-author_rjc2007.rtf  (for
example WRIGHT_rjc2007.rtf ). It will contain the following details:
- Author's contact details (surname(s), first name(s), e-mail address,
postal address);
- The institution to which the author belongs, the level of studies (PhD
students, please specify the year); 
- Thesis supervisor's full name.

Oral presentations and posters can be presented either in English or French.

Remarks:

Presentations can be filmed and/or made available online on demand.
These meetings lead to a double publication: one in paper format, and the
other in digital format - on the YRM (RJC) website.

The Japanese Society for Language Sciences (JSLS) invites proposals for our Ninth Annual International Conference, JSLS 2007. JSLS2007 will be held at Miyagi Gakuin Women's University in Sendai, Japan. We

Ichida (National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities).

We would like to encourage submissions on research pertaining to language sciences, including linguistics (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics), first language acquisition, second language acquisition, bilingualism, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, natural language processing, psychology, education, computer science, brain science, and philosophy, among others. We will not commit ourselves to one or a few particular theoretical frameworks. We will respect any scientific endeavor that aims to contribute to a better understanding of the human mind and the brain through language. 

Qualifications for Presenters:

All presenters should be members of JSLS and also should have completed their conference registration for JSLS2007 by June 1st, 2007. (It is not necessary for co-presenters to be members, but they must be registered for the conference if they plan to attend.) Please refer to the following website for membership information:

The language of presentation should be either Japanese or English. Papers published or presented elsewhere should not be submitted and will not be accepted. Each author is only allowed to submit one proposal as the first author. Each paper presentation will be 25 minutes in length (20 minutes for presentation, followed by a five-minute question & answer period). The presentation of posters will be 90 minutes.

attachment. Please do not include any information in your abstract
which may reveal your identity, as the review process will be
conducted anonymously.

a. Number of pages;
b. paper: maximum 2 pages (including title, tables, figures, & references);
c. poster: 1 page (including title, tables, figures, & references);
d. Paper size: A4 or letter-size.
e. Margins:
    1. In the case of A4, Top and Bottom: 30mm, Left and Right: 25mm;
    2. In the case of letter-size, all margins: 1 inch;
    4. Font style: Times New Roman (or a similar font);
    5. Font size: 12 point for text, 10 point for references/ footnotes;
    6. Line spacing: Single space.

2. Save the file as a ''pdf file'', ''text file'', or ''MSWord'' file.

a. Please note that other formats will not be accepted.
b. Save your file under your own name (e.g., brown-roger.pdf). 

Each abstract will be reviewed anonymously by several reviewers. Notification of acceptance will be made by the end of March. (Please note that some ''paper'' proposals might be accepted as ''poster'' presentations.)  

If your proposal is accepted, you will be requested to send a copy of your paper (Maximum length for papers is 4 pages, for posters 1 page) by June 1, 2007. This paper will appear in the Conference Handbook. Outstanding papers may be published as a collection of papers titled ''Studies in Language Sciences''.  

Note: We will issue an acceptance letter if your paper is accepted. However, we are unable to issue any kind of invitation letter.  

Symposia:

We will only accept submissions via e-mail for the symposium no later than January 26, 2007 (Friday), Japan Standard Time. Each symposium will last approximately 2 hours. The symposium may be conducted in English or Japanese.

b. Paper size: A4 or letter-size
c. Margins:
