Description:
The Department of Linguistics has a position available for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2007. The successful candidate should
have a research program demonstrating achievement in phonology and/or
phonetics. Completion of the Ph.D. is required prior to appointment. The
position requires instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels as
well as an active research program.
The Department of Linguistics is currently expanding to become the
Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science. The Department has
strengths in phonology, syntax, semantics, field linguistics, endangered
languages, infant language, language acquisition, linguistic
vs.non-linguistic representation, philosophy of biology, philosophy of
mind, and philosophy of language. Our cutting-edge cognitive science
program more broadly includes over 30 faculty members in the departments of
anthropology, computer and information science, linguistics, psychology,
and philosophy, with strengths in most of the core areas of cognitive
science. A new member of the Department Linguistics and Cognitive Science
will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the Department and
the inter-disciplinary cognitive science program in general. Opportunities
exist for collaborative teaching and cross-disciplinary research with
cognitive scientists trained in other disciplines.
