Meeting Description:
The First International Conference on Spanish and Portuguese Dialogue Studies / Estudios del Diálogo, is centered on theoretical and practical contributions to the field of Spanish and Portuguese Discourse Analysis and Pragmatics, with a particular emphasis on the context of dialogue.
The conference program is organized around plenary Sessions and Simultaneous Sessions for presenting papers. Simultaneous sessions will deal with all topics related to dialogue, with particular interest in:
- Conversation Analysis
- Dialogue and Politics
- Discourse and Ideology
- Dialogue in the Media
- Second Language Acquisition and Dialogue
- Dialogue and Identity
- Pragmatics in Dialogue
- Politeness in Dialogue
Official languages of the conference will be English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
All the abstracts will go through a formal evaluation before the papers can be included in the program of the Conference. We anticipate that selected papers will be published in a volume subsequent to the conference.
Individual papers will be allotted 20 minutes for the presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion. Only papers presented by the original authors will be included in the program.
Colleagues interested in participating in the International Conference on Dialogue Studies in Spanish and Portuguese should send their abstract before December 1, 2006.
Abstracts should be no more than two pages in length, US letter (including examples and references), in 12-point type. All margins should be at least one inch wide (or 2.5 cm). Authors are asked to submit their abstracts as e-mail attachments (MS Word is preferred) to
No faxes will be accepted. In the email message please include the title of the paper, name of the author(s), affiliation(s), address, phone number, and email address. Do not put this information on the abstract itself. To facilitate the review process, please indicate the primary area of linguistics addressed in the paper, referring to the list above if possible. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author. Preference will be given to presentations not duplicated at other major conferences. Authors are asked to indicate prior or planned presentations of their papers.
