Description:
Pending budgetary approval, the Department of Linguistics at the University
of California, Berkeley has been authorized to make up to two full-time
tenure-track appointments, at the assistant professor level, in the area of
language and cognition. One of these will be a joint appointment with the
undergraduate program in Cognitive Science. Salary will be commensurate
with experience; the Ph.D. (in Linguistics or an allied field) is required
by July 1, 2007, the starting date of the appointment. Duties will include
undergraduate and graduate teaching (four courses per year) and advising,
supervision of student research, and development of a successful and
original research program.
Successful candidates will have a broad intellectual engagement with the
fields of Linguistics and Cognitive Science. Scholars with interests in
the sociocultural aspects of cognition and language, including (but not
limited to) pragmatics, language use, or language learning, are especially
encouraged to apply.
The tenure home and graduate teaching for both positions will be in the
Department of Linguistics. One position will entail two undergraduate
courses per year in Cognitive Science, including courses cross-listed in
Linguistics.

work, and evidence of excellence in teaching. Applicants should arrange
