Description:
The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis is
seeking an Associate Director with a background in interdisciplinary
research in intelligent systems and cognitive science. This is a tenure
track position at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Preferences will be given to candidates who build on the existing research
strengths in the IIS: artificial intelligence, language and discourse,
computational linguistics, learning sciences, biologically inspired
computing, and robotics. The Associate Director will coordinate public
relations, oversee organization of meetings and seminars, keep IIS members
informed of events and research, track funding opportunities for IIS
researchers, promote collaborations between researchers, and work with the
Director to advance the mission of the IIS.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in a field relevant
to IIS, to have a record of interdisciplinary publications, and to maintain
an active research program that will attract external funding. This
tenure-track position will begin in August 2007. Salary is competitive and
commensurate with qualifications.
