Description:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate (at time of appointment) in
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or related field. Strong background in
general linguistics and specialization related to phonology and/or language
acquisition. Record in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with
professional level. Ability to teach courses in Phonology, and Language
Acquisition. Ability to maintain a research program and to direct student
research. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and
culturally diverse campus community. Professional/personal experience with
languages other than English.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach in one or more of the
following areas: General Linguistics, Phonetics, first and second language
research and applied linguistics. Ability to help improve both
undergraduate and graduate programs. Ability to obtain support for
research. Demonstrated connections with educational institutions locally,
nationally and internationally. Successful experience teaching at the
university level. Professional and personal experience with strategic, less
commonly taught languages.
DUTIES: Teach courses in general linguistics, language acquisition,
introductory and advanced phonology. Teach courses in applied linguistics
at the BA and MA level. Supervise student research in relevant areas.
Engage in scholarly activity leading to publication. Participate in service
to the department, college, university, and community.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience and qualifications; probable
beginning salary is $56,000.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: Letter of application; curriculum vitae including
email address; three recent letters of recommendation; official transcripts
from institution awarding the doctorate; teaching portfolio including
teaching statement, course syllabi, and teaching evaluation summaries.
