Conference Theme: Nihizaad náásgóó beeda'iiná  

The Athabaskan Languages Conference requests presentations on any topic relating
to Athabaskan languages. The theme for the conference is Nihizaad náásgóó
beeda'iiná/ Living our languages into the future. Topics of interest include
language teaching and learning, language documentation, language and culture,
community programs, linguistics, language revitalization, and curriculum
development.

Presenters will have 30 minutes or 60 minutes for their talks. Please prepare
presentations of 20 minutes or 45 minutes, allowing 10 or 15 minutes for
discussion. If you would like a longer presentation time, please contact the
Program Coordinator.

About the theme: The theme for the conference is Nihizaad náásgóó beeda'iiná/
Living our languages into the future. This is a critical time for our Athabaskan
languages. We need to find ways to support and strengthen each other. We,
educators and linguists, are seeking ways to support and strengthen each other.
The group includes people who work inside and outside academic settings, people
from different Athabaskan cultures, people with heritage from different
continents, Canadians and US citizens. We cross borders to work together.
Proposals that speak to this theme are encouraged, but we do not want to limit
proposals to this theme only.

This year's conference is dedicated to the memory of William Morgan and Robert
Young.

If you would like to give a presentation, please send a 2-page proposal to Will
Quale. State whether you want 30 minutes or 60 minutes for your talk. The
deadline for proposals is Tuesday May 01, 2007. Proposals by e-mail (.doc, .rtf,
or .pdf format only), fax, or mail are encouraged. Please use .pdf format if
your text includes special fonts.

The BIDE Summer 2007 School of Linguistics consists in a series of courses, each
focusing on the linguistic structure of a different group of Minority Languages.
It will be held from July 9th to July 12th at the University of Deusto, where
each day a course will describe the syntactic and phonological systems of a
language (or group of languages), and place it within the broader context of
linguistic theory. The languages that will be covered in the courses include
Basque, Sign Languages, Occitan, Panoan Languages and Breton. The classes will
be taught in English by international specialists on the different minority
languages just mentioned and will be geared towards anyone with an interest in
linguistics, both students and more advanced researchers.

2- BIDE 2007 Student Conference in Linguistics
July 13-14, 2007

We are pleased to announce the 2007 BIDE (Bilbao-Deusto) Student Conference in
Linguistics, BIDE'07. The aim of BIDE is to serve as rendezvous for new
generations of academics from all areas of linguistic research (Theoretical,
Experimental, Applied & Computational Linguistics). BIDE provides students a
welcoming atmosphere where they can present their own work and get feedback from
peers as well as senior researchers.

Abstracts are due by April 27, 2007. Your proposal should describe original,
unpublished work that may be in progress. Authors are limited to a maximum of
one individual and one joint submission (papers co-authored with faculty will
not be accepted). Send your abstract as a PDF or WORD file to bide at fil.deusto.es
with 'abstract submission' in the subject field. The abstract should be
anonymous and abide by the following specifications: do not exceed two pages
(examples and references included); use 1 inch ( 2.54 cm) margins on all sides;
and a 12 point size font (preferably Times New Roman). Include your name(s),
title of the paper, affiliation(s) and contact information in the email body,
and indicate what area of linguistics your contribution fits in best, e.g.
morphology, phonetics, phonology, syntax, etc. English is the official language
of the conference and all abstracts must be written in this language.

Notification of acceptance will be sent around mid May. Accepted papers are
allotted 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

The papers presented at BIDE'07 are eligible for publication in the conference
proceedings. The deadline for submitting papers will be announced at the conference.
