SEARCH FOR EDITOR
CRITICAL INQUIRY IN LANGUAGE STUDIES (CILS)
At the conclusion of the 2008 publication year, the current editors of
Critical Inquiry in Language Studies: An International Journal, Professors
Terry A. Osborn and Timothy Reagan, will step down from their position.
The journal functions as an internationally refereed journal as well as the
official journal of the International Society for Language Studies, Inc.,
and is published by Taylor & Francis. A search is underway for the new
editor. The editorial duties include receiving manuscripts submitted for
publication, assigning manuscripts to associate editors or reviewers,
monitoring the review process, assembling accepted manuscripts and other
articles, overseeing the copyediting, communicating with the publisher,
communicating with authors, and preparing annual reports for the ISLS
Executive Board. The term for editor is 5 years.
The successful candidate for editor will (a) have a wide knowledge of
issues in one or more areas of language studies; (b) have been an active
and recognized contributor to the professional research literature; (c)
have some experience as an editor or reviewer for professional
publication(s); (d) have the ability to work cooperatively with the ISLS
Executive Board and others; and (e) receive institutional support for
their editorial work, including a direct subsidy to ISLS and in-kind
support from her or his home institution.
Applicants for this position should submit the following materials
electronically:
- A letter of application in which the applicant explains his/her reasons
for applying for this position and any proposed improvements or future
directions the publication will take under her/his leadership;
- A description of the resources available to the editor to facilitate the
management and preparation of CILS;
- A letter from the dean or other appropriate university official
indicating institutional support both in terms of direct subsidy and
in-kind support; and
- Curriculum vitae of all appropriate personnel.
In addition, the applicant should have three confidential letters of
reference sent directly to the search committee chair. These letters should
be from individuals who have knowledge of the applicant's ability to fill
the position.
