Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill announces the opening of a tenure-track assistant professor position
to begin July 1, 2008.
Applications are solicited from linguists with specialties in either 1)
linguistic variation (understood broadly, including both diachronic and
synchronic studies), or 2) computational linguistics. Expertise in corpus
studies or non Indo-European languages is desirable and the candidate's
research program should interface with or bear on issues in theoretical
linguistics. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Linguistics and a
record of excellence in research and in teaching. The successful candidate
will complement existing strengths in the department and add to those
strengths in substantive ways. Information about the department, its
faculty, students, and programs is available on our website listed above.
Applicants should send a letter of application, a research statement,
curriculum vitae, four letters of recommendation, and supporting documents
(e.g. research papers, teaching evaluations) to Randall Hendrick at the
