Description:

The Relational Agents Group in the College of Computer and Information
Science at Northeastern University is seeking to fill a postdoctoral
research position to support several NIH- and NSF-funded projects in the
area of health dialogue systems. These projects bring together researchers
from Computer Science, Linguistics, Animation, and relevant health
disciplines to develop animated conversational health counselors for health
education and health behavior change interventions. More information on our

The candidate's primary responsibilities will include:
-Collaboration on the development of a hierarchical dialogue planner to
support multiple counseling sessions, driven by an ontology of concepts and
strategies from behavioral medicine.
-Collaboration on the development of a social dialogue story generator for
conversational storytelling within a healthcare context.
-High-level design of health dialogue system content, and supervision of
graduate and undergraduate students developing and testing health dialogue
systems.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Linguistics, Computer Science,
or a related area. Requirements include: (i) a solid theoretical background
and practical experience in building dialogue systems; (ii) excellent
programming skills in Java (C/C++ and Flash experience a plus); and (iii) a
strong motivation and proven ability to work and publish collaboratively. 

The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
The initial appointment will be for 12 months, with the possibility of
extension by another 12 months, subject to performance and availability of
funding. Financial compensation will be competitive and commensurate with
the candidate's qualification.
