I would be extremely grateful for bibliographical suggestions concerning
sources which would be worth utilizing in a course on current controversies
in language acquisition and teaching. Welcome will be recommendations
itemizing general overviews, vehement 'position papers' which only present
one camp in the debate, as well as any 'enjoyable' readings on the subject
which may make the course more digestible. The topics envisaged include
(but need not be limited to):

- bilingual education

- contrastive approaches to language teaching

- communicative methods (incl. Callan)

- CALL

- task-based learning

- corpus-based materials and data-driven learning; authentic or adapted
materials

- language portfolios

- alternative testing

- language policy of the Council of Europe and directives of the CEF

- criteria of evaluating linguistic competence

- plurilingualism

- English as a lingua franca

- the utility of theoretical insights in teaching practice

- the critical/sensitive period

- the place and role of grammar in developing linguistic competence

Given the somewhat restricted access to linguistic sources at our
university, I will be extremely obliged for all suggestions.
