Description:

The English Department at the University of British Columbia invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in English Language to
begin July 1, 2008. Applicants will normally be within three years of being
awarded the PhD. This position is for one year, renewable for an additional
year subject to approval from the Head of the Department. The position is
subject to final budgetary approval.

The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow program within the Faculty of Arts enables
innovative and collaborative teaching between fellows and outstanding UBC
professors, while helping to launch the careers of new scholars showing
early promise as excellent university teachers and researchers.
Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows have the opportunity to interact with faculty
on teaching and research, as well as be part of a cohort of early-career
scholars sharing methods and exchanging ideas for excellent teaching.

The Department of English is seeking candidates with a specialty in English
Language Studies, especially those whose areas of interests include the
application of linguistics to literary or textual study. The UBC Department
of English has active undergraduate and graduate programs in English
Language and a strong complement of faculty with expertise in this field 
(see http://www.english.ubc.ca/grad/research/language.htm). 

Under the supervision of an experienced professor, the successful candidate
will teach three semester courses each year of the fellowship; these will
include two large courses at the first-year level and one smaller course at
the second-year level or above. 

Applicants should submit a letter of application, a statement of teaching
philosophy, evidence of teaching potential, a sample of written work, and a
CV. All material should be sent to the address given below.

Applicants must also arrange for three academics to mail confidential
letters of reference to the same address. Complete applications and
reference letters received by February 22, 2008 will be given priority;
however, positions will remain open until filled.
