The Noun Associations for German (NAG) searchable database is now available
to interested researchers and scholars. This web-based searchable database
includes free association norms collected to over 400 German concrete
nouns.  Associations were elicited from 300 native speakers of German to
either orthographic stimuli or orthographic + pictoral stimuli. Similar to
well-known association databases for English (such as the Edinburgh
Associative Thesaurus and the University of South Florida Free Association
Norms), the NAG database provides information about the frequency of an
associate response to a given target word or picture. Entries in the
database are additionally coded for features such as semantic category,
part of speech, frequency of occurrence, and order of mention.

More information about the database and search options is also available at
the same address. There is no charge for using this database.

The collection of the association norms and the construction of the
database were supported by a research grant ''Anschubfinanzierung'' from
Saarland University.
