We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Hi-

I am looking for professional advice about the acquisition of French and
Spanish in an English Speaking school. We are piloting a program with 2
and 3 year olds and plan to expand the program to nursery, pre-K and
kindergarteners next year. Each teacher is visiting the classrooms two
times per week for 1 hour each visit. The teacher is participating in
activities with the children in a natural setting with the goal being to
acquire the language in a natural way (games, crafts, snack-time etc).

So far, we have seen a positive response, but we are looking for opinions
about the growth of this program. Our goal is to continue to visit the
classrooms through 5th and possibly through 8th grade with French and
Spanish. Is it possible for young children to acquire 2 languages with this
amount of exposure? What do you forsee as our big obstacles? Do you know
of good sources for literature or curriculum development in this field?
Much thanks

Dear Linguists,

I am about to start researching on Linguistic politeness in Croat,
therefore I am wondering if some research has been done on that. I would be
more that grateful for any information regarding linguistic politeness in
Croat (or Serbo-Croat if the reference is older).

Thank you very much.

Best wishes,
Antun Maric
