Temporary Lecturer in Sociolinguistics
Lecturer Grade A: £25,333 - £29,055 p.a.
This is a 6 months full time post available from 1st February 2007 teaching
two modules (20 hours lectures per module).
The main responsibility will be to teach one third-year and postgraduate
module in SOCIOLINGUISTICS and one first-year module entitled "Language and
the World" which is an introduction to aspects of sociolinguistics and
language typology. The person appointed will also be required to
contribute to the teaching of our Research Methods module (2nd year) and
also to a first-year module entitled "Issues in English Language Study".
Formal contact hours (lecturing) should not exceed 45 hours over ten weeks,
plus graduate tutorials for sociolinguistics, help with supervision of
undergraduate dissertations and normal examining, marking and
administrative duties.
This vacancy arises from the award to University of Wales, Bangor of the
Centre for Bilingualism (funded by the ESRC) and the consequent appointment
of Professor Margaret Deuchar from this School as its director from 1st
January.
A full-time, permanent position in sociolinguistics will be advertised in
due course.
Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant field or be nearing completion
and have experience of teaching in Higher Education.
