The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Job Rank: Lecturer
Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Speech-Language Pathology
Description:
The Department of Applied Linguistics at Brock University offers undergraduate
majors in Applied Linguistics, Applied Linguistics/TESL, Hearing Sciences and
Speech and Language Sciences; the Department also offers a Master of Arts degree
program in Applied Linguistics/TESL. Applications are now invited for a
12-month limited-term appointment, subject to final budgetary approval, to begin
officially on July 1, 2007; applicants are advised that Fall Term classes begin
on September 6, 2007. We seek applicants with successful teaching and research
experience. The successful candidate will teach phonetics, phonology, and two
other half-credit courses, chosen (depending on the individual's qualifications)
from the following: descriptive English grammar; sociolinguistics; anatomy &
physiology of speech production; clinical phonetics; and assessment of speech
and language disorders. Applicants whose research interests relate most closely
to English phonetics and/or phonology (e.g., phonological processing, prosodic
processing, speech motor control) are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates should hold by the time of their appointment a PhD in Speech-Language
Pathology, Psycholinguistics/Neurolinguistics, or Linguistics; a Master's degree
in Speech-Language Pathology or MA in Linguistics, however, will be considered.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level,
participate in the academic and administrative activities of the Department, and
to develop or sustain an active program of research/scholarship. The
appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor,
conditional on qualifications and experience. Review of applications will
commence on July 26, 2007, and will continue until the position is filled. All
qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent
residents will be given priority. Brock University is actively committed to
diversity and the principles of Employment Equity and invites applications from
all qualified candidates. Women, Aboriginal peoples, members of visible
minorities, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply and
to voluntarily self-identify as a member of a designated group as part of their
application. Candidates who wish to have their application considered as a
member of one or more designated groups should fill out the Self-Identification
Form available at
http://www.brocku.ca/humanrights/images/selfIdentification.doc, and should
include the completed form with their application.
To be given full consideration, interested applicants should send a cover letter
and current curriculum vitae, including the full names of three referees, by
July 26, 2007, to Dr. Thomas S.C. Farrell, Chair, Department of Applied
Linguistics at the address given below. Please arrange for each letter of
recommendation to be sent directly to Dr. Farrell, without awaiting
solicitation; to assure that letters are as specific as possible, candidates are
advised to apprise referees of the nature of the Department and of the
advertised position.
