Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz
announces the opening of two tenure-track positions, one of which can be made at
the mid-Associate Professor level (with tenure) and the other at the Assistant
Professor level (non-tenure).
The department is hiring in two areas: 1) Formal Semantics/Pragmatics,
2) Experimental Linguistics. For the latter, we are seeking a linguist whose
research-program is rooted in experimental methodologies and who uses those
methodologies in exploring issues in linguistic theory.
The successful candidates will complement existing strengths in the department
but will also add to those strengths in substantive ways. They will also
contribute breadth and depth to the undergraduate and graduate curricula.
The department has PhD and MA programs in theoretical linguistics focused on
syntax, semantics, and phonology, and sponsors two undergraduate majors.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research,
teaching, and service, and it particularly values those who can play leadership
roles in pursuing the goal of increasing diversity within the campus community.
Position 1: Associate Professor
Position 2: Assistant Professor
Salary:
Position 1: $59,700 - $88,600 commensurate with qualifications and experience
Position 2: $48,100 - $66,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Linguistics, in hand by the time of appointment; demonstrated record of
excellence in research and in teaching.
Position Available: July 1, 2008
