Research Assistant
This post is for three years, for an AHRC funded project, 'Fisher Speak:
Variation and Change in the Lexis of Scottish Fishing Communities,' starting
1 September 2007.
Along with the principal investigator, Dr Robert McColl Millar, you will be
involved in the creation and application of research instruments to study
lexical change and attrition in the lexical patterns of a representative
sample of Scottish fishing communities and contribute to the writing up of
the project's findings. You must have a PhD in Sociolinguistics and/or
Dialectology, with a good knowledge of recent statistical packages along
with sound IT skills and, preferably, either a background in the study of
the Scottish dialects or be a Scots speaker. An academic training in
historical linguistics would also be desirable. A valid driver's licence is
essential.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale (£23,329 -
£27,045 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
