Description:

The Department of Icelandic at the University of Iceland invites applications
for a PhD studentship in Icelandic Linguistics in the field of phonetics
and phonology. The doctoral project will mainly focus on research and analysis
of phonological laws related to stress and intonation in connected Icelandic
speech, with the possibility of comparison with related languages, in
particular Faroese. The work will be supervised by Professor Kristján
Árnason, and the study and research will be planned in consultation with an
appointed doctoral committee. The student may optionally spend part of his/her
time of study (up to two semesters) at some other university, pending an
agreement with the institution involved.

The grant is sponsored by the University of Iceland Research Fund, and
covers a stipend of ISK 2.5 million (about EUR 29,000) per year for three and
a half years, starting in 2007 or early 2008. The Centre for Research in the
Humanities (a faculty-based institute) offers office facilities for which the
student can apply.
