Linguistics Association of Great Britain Meeting 2007

Meeting Description: 

The 2007 Annual Meeting of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain will be
held at King's College London, from 29th August to 1st September. The local
organisers will be Devyani Sharma, Eleni Gregoromichelaki, and Suzanne LaBelle.
The Meeting will last four days and will feature several special events,
including two invited speakers and an invited Language Tutorial. 

The second circular for the 2007 LAGB Meeting is ready, and all those interested
are asked to download it from this address:

Both the second circular and the programme for the conference can be downloaded
(in pdf format) from this address.

Booking will be conducted electronically this year, and details are given in the
second circular. A booking website will be hosted at KCL, and will be available
very soon.


- Highlights of the 2007 meeting are given below

1. The Henry Sweet Lecture 2007 will be delivered by Hans Kamp (University of
Stuttgart) on the evening of 29th August, with the title 'Discourse Linking as
(Simultaneous) Constraint Solving'.

2. The Linguistics Association Lecture 2007 will be delivered by B. Elan Dresher
(University of Toronto) on 1st September, with the title 'The Contrastive
Hierarchy in Phonology'.

3. A workshop on Issues in Dynamic Semantics, related to the Henry Sweet Lecture
and organised by Martina Faller (Manchester) and Shalom Lappin (KCL), will be
held on the afternoon of 29th August, featuring Chris Fox, Jonathan Ginzburg,
Ruth Kempson, Shalom Lappin, and Alex Lascarides.

4. A special themed session, related to the Linguistics Association Lecture,
with the title 'Contrast in Phonology', will be held on 1st September.

5. There will be a Language Tutorial on Slavey, given by Keren Rice (University
of Toronto).

6. There will be a session organised by the LAGB's Education Committee which
will feature a discussion of how linguists in Higher Education communicate with
teachers and pupils in schools. Details will be posted on
www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/dick/ec/ecsessions.htm. There will also be a talk,
sponsored by the UK Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies,
on the transition from English Language 'A' Level to the study of Linguistics
and English Language in Higher Education.

7. Wine receptions will be held on the evenings of 29th and 30th August,
sponsored by King's College London (on 29th August) and Blackwell (on 30th August).

There will also be an independently organised 'Workshop on Features' at King's
on 1st and 2nd September, and those who attend the LAGB meeting may attend
workshop events on Saturday 1st September at no extra cost. Further details can
