The Department of Linguistics seeks an outstanding scholar for appointment
as Professor. The successful candidate will have a distinguished
publication record and extensive experience in postgraduate education and
will have demonstrated achievement in providing academic leadership.
He/she will have field experience and substantial research achievements in
one or more of the following domains: Austronesian languages, Papuan
languages, mainland Southeast Asian languages and/or their relationships
with each other and with neighbouring areas. The position carries only
modest teaching responsibilities but the appointee will be expected to
serve as Head of Department.
Candidates will be expected to provide a detailed statement of the research
project(s) they intend to pursue during the initial five years of the
appointment. The research should be compatible with the Department's range
of interests, as outlined in the Further Particulars obtainable from the
Head of Department. The successful candidate will also be expected to serve
on the editorial board of the publication series, Pacific Linguistics.
In addition to pursuing his or her own research interests, the appointee
will be expected to provide academic leadership within the discipline;
contribute to PhD training in the Graduate Program; co-operate in the
multidisciplinary environment of the School; and generally to promote the
work of the Department.
