Description:

The German project partner at the University of Hanover (Germany) of the
international research project 'Grammaticalization and
(inter)subjectification' (GRAMIS), funded by the Belgium national research
programme 'Interuniversity Attraction Poles' (IAP), invites applications
for one PhD position in historical linguistics for the next possible date.

In close cooperation with the other teams, the team at Hanover will work on
the following topics: 
1) Modality - with focus on grammaticalization and subjectification
2) Evidentiality
3) Mood
4) Discourse particles
5) Theory of grammaticalization

He or she is expected to work in at least one of these project areas as
well as to organize courses, workshops and seminars within the project.
Applicants should have significant expertise in historical linguistics, the
diachronic development of German and typology. Fluent command of German and
English is required. 

The position is available for two years with the possibility to be extended
to five years (Salary scale: PhD: E13 ½ / E13 Ü ½ ).

statement of research interests and at least one reference letter should be
