Description:

As of May 11, 2007, the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial
Intelligence (OFAI) in Vienna, Austria offers a research position in its
Language Technology group.

Candidates are expected to have a degree in computational linguistics or
computer science with a background in language technology. S/he will be
an open minded team worker, who is able to work creatively in an
interdisciplinary context. S/he will have good programming skills and be
able to flexibly use different programming languages. S/he likes to to
work in a research environment constantly learning and developing fresh
concepts and ideas. Publishing research results is part of the job and
actively encouraged.

Fluency in German and/or English is expected.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in one or more of
the following areas: cognitive systems, semantic systems including semantic
web technology, multimodal dialogue, multimodal interaction, embodied
conversational characters, ontology engineering, text mining and machine
learning, text preprocessing and text structuring.

The position is in the framework of a project in the field of cognitively
enhanced artificial agents that are able to learn from interaction with the
user and by extracting information from the Web. Advancing speech
recognition through integration of semantic knowledge is another focus. The
project is ongoing and will continue at least until December 2008.

The contract will be for the duration of the project. Continued employment
after the end of the project is possible.

Salary depends on academic credentials and experience of the candidate.
