Dear list members,

I am a graduate student majoring in applied linguistics. My degree paper is
on recasts, which are used by EFL teachers to reformulate students' oral
errors in classroom.  I don't know when was the first time the
term''recasts'' in this sense appeared in literatures.  My research
question is whether recasts can facilitate foreign language acquisition. 
In the past few years, researches on recasts were increasing fast, but the
results were mixed.  

I will conduct an experiment in on-going classrooms, but I am not sure
whether or not there will be significant differences between the
experimental group and the control group. To decide which teachers are
appropriate for the two groups compared, I have to observe the classroom
activities to find out to what degree the communicative approach of
different teachers are comparable.  In some literatures, researchers use
Nina Spada's 'COLT: Communicative Orientation of Language Teaching
Observation Scheme'  as an instrument to compare.  I retrieved the first
chapter of this book on the web, but I couldn't find the rest. There isn't
this book in my country's libraries. 

Any suggestions on this topic are appreciated.

Hi, 

I've got two queries here:

1. I wonder if Wordsmith could provide a wordlist of tagged n-grams? I'm
trying to find out the most frequent collocation types (based on Benson's
1986 categories of lexical collocations) found in science texts.

2. I would also like to know how do I get hold of the JDEST (Science and
Technology) corpus developed by Yang (1986)
