Description:
The Department of Classical, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and
Cultures, an interdisciplinary department with a growing program in East
Asian Studies, has authorization to make a substitute appointment in
Chinese language and linguistics at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant
Professor, to begin in January 2008 (and renewable through June 2009).
Duties include teaching introductory Chinese language as well as
undergraduate courses on Chinese linguistics.
Native or near-native competency in Chinese and English is required. The
PhD is required for appointment as a Substitute Assistant Professor.
Preference will be given to candidates with a research specialty in
phonology or phonetics.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from
$38,801 - $71,732, at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The search will remain open until the position is filled; review of

letter of application describing research interests, teaching experience
and language abilities, along with the names of three referees should be
