Meeting Description: 

The conference 'Interpreting for Relevance: Discourse and Translation' aims to
provide a venue for linguists and other scholars to explore phenomena of human
communication and cognition from the perspective of relevance theory as well as
related and competing approaches.  We would also like to encourage those
interested in translation studies and literary analysis to test and evaluate the
efficiency of the theory of relevance with regard to those fields of studies.
Participation is encouraged for those with interests that range from purely
theoretical linguistic and/or pragmatic studies to empirical applications in
language, translation and literature. 

We are pleased to announce that the fourth biennial conference ''Interpreting
for Relevance: Discourse and Translation'' will be held on 17-18 June 2008 in
Kazimierz Dolny, Poland.

Topics addressed will be from the following areas:

State-of-the-art developments, modifications and critiques of relevance theory;
Practical applications of relevance theory (e.g. language learning/teaching,
translation studies, literary theory);
Mental representations, concepts, the architecture of the mind;
Meaning and communication;
Ways of interpreting various types of discourse;
Social aspects of communication and language use;
Experimental studies verifying or falsifying predictions derived from relevance
theory.
