Meeting Description:
This workshop will present a new corpus of spoken L2 Spanish (Spanish Language
learner Oral Corpus: SPLLOC), and review the potential contribution of learner
corpora to SLA research. The corpus has been created through an ESRC funded
project at the universities of Southampton, Newcastle and York. It consists of
samples of learner speech in a variety of genres, from beginners to advanced.
The conventions and software of the CHILDES project (http://childes.psy.cmu.edu
) have been used for transcription and part of speech tagging of the corpus. The
programme includes presentations from members of the SPLLOC team about the
corpus design and associated research programme and a hands-on workshop
demonstrating CHILDES programmes for data analysis.
