Description:
The Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University announces a
full-time, tenured/tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or
Associate Professor in language and culture beginning Fall semester, 2008.
Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications (PhD
required; all candidates who are ABD should expect completion before August
19, 2008).
WSU, a leading urban research university, is located in the Detroit
Cultural Center and serves a diverse student body. The Department has 14
full time faculty with linkages to other humanities and language
departments, the metropolitan area's various ethnic communities, and
prominent medical and corporate institutions.
Duties include teaching, research, publication, and participating in the
development of an innovative 4-fields anthropology curriculum. The
successful candidate should have a record of success in publication,
external funding and experience in undergraduate and graduate teaching and
mentoring. A background in linguistic anthropology essential. Geographic
and topical areas open. We especially encourage candidates with expertise
in one or more of the following areas: urban settings, medical or
business/organizational settings, childhood and adolescence, race,
ethnicity, and nationalism. WSU offers excellent benefits. Minority
