Description:
The Linguistics Section of the English department has a vacancy for a
senior position in Sociolinguistics, with a specialisation in language
contact and variation as appropriate to the South African context.
We invite applications for this post for appointment from 1 January 2008,
or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in Linguistics, with a
Sociolinguistic focus, and an outstanding publication record in the areas
indicated. Duties will include undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching
and supervision, and departmental and research administration. A scholarly
interest in migration and an ability to undertake South African research on
this theme will be a strong recommendation, given the section's current
research focus.
Appointment will be made at the Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor
level, depending on the successful candidate's experience and track record.
The annual remuneration package, including benefits for 2007 is as follows:
Associate Professor level: R394 536
Senior Lecturer level: R337 600
