================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
The Butler Hill, a virtual computational linguistics company, has an
immediate need for native or near-native speakers in Arabic, Czech, Danish,
Hindi, Dutch, Polish, European Portuguese, Swedish and Thai. Project work
requires high-level reading comprehension and communication skills and
editorial skills for written text, including detailed knowledge of spelling
and punctuation standards. Work involves reading automatic translations of
sentences into your target language, rating them on a provided scale and
selecting the better of 2 sentences relative to an English source or a
human-translated reference.
This is a free-lance position involving working remotely from a home office
in the US or abroad (US-based consultants must have US work authorization).
We are interested in contracting for a long-term relationship involving
very sporadic work (possibly 1-2 projects per year, requiring about 4-5
hours over a 1-week period, with completely flexible scheduling).
Consultants may be offered more project work on short notice with no
obligation to accept.
This work requires a high-speed Internet connection (DSL or cable),
regular, secure access to a personal computer running a recent version of
Windows and experience with Microsoft Office.
Interested candidates should email a recent resume/CV, in Word format, in
English, and a cover letter specifying relevant background and ability to
meet job requirements. Include your target language and the word
'Evaluator' in the subject line of the email.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such
can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations
can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax
payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your
financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting
your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills
in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure
that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.
