Meeting Description:
The Eastern European Summer School in Generative Grammar -- EGG will take place
in Debrecen (Hungary) from July 28 to August 8 2008.
The school is aimed at students and practitioners at all levels.
Travel and accommodation grants are available for qualified applicants from
Eastern European countries.
This is to announce registration dates for the 2008 edition of the Eastern
European Summer School in Generative Grammar -- EGG. The Summer School (July 28
to August 8) will return after exactly 10 years to the Hungarian city of
Debrecen. Registration is open between April 18 and May 2 2008.
This year's school will be another experiment with thematic schools, at least in
syntax: we will concentrate on remnant movement -- the movement of phrases with
an unplugged gap, an unbound trace. Remnant movement, once thought to be
completely impossible, has had a swift career in theoretical syntax over the
past 15 to 20 years. It has been invoked in explaining complex word order
patterns and diachronic change, it has been used to eliminate head movement and
covert movement. As this list makes obvious, remnant movement is a very powerful
tool that needs to be constrained if its explanatory value is not to be lost.
Every application of remnant movement makes the question more urgent: where are
the bounds?
The teaching team of this year's school is made up of the following people:
Anthi Revithiadou (University Of The Aegean)
Ben Hermans (Meertens Institute)
Gereon Müller (Universitaet Leipzig)
Jochen Trommer (Universitaet Leipzig)
Klaus Abels (University College London)
Maria Gouskova (NYU)
Marta Abrusan (Paris)
Mélanie Jouitteau (Paris)
Øystein Nilsen (Tromsø/Utrecht)
Roland Hinterhölzl (Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin)
General information on the the school can be found at http://egg.auf.net
More detailed information about classes can be found at
http://egg.auf.net/08/docs/classes.html
Grants for partial reimbursement of travel and living costs are available for
students from Eastern European countries.
Those interested can register for the school at the above website between April
18 and May 2.

Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting
your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills
in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure
that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.
