Description:

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a
government-funded graduate school in Gwangju, South Korea. GIST is
currently seeking one or more native speakers of English to teach graduate
students (MS/PhD students majoring in science and engineering) starting
from January or March, 2009. GIST was established in 1993 by the Korean
Ministry of Science and Technology as a government-funded graduate school
to produce elite scientists and engineers. All programs (and associated
courses) are conducted using English as the language of instruction. All
students must publish their MS/PhD theses in English as a requirement of
graduation.

I: Required Qualifications:  
1. MA in Education, TESOL or related fields including science and
engineering (MA/MS or higher required for position).
2. Minimum of 2 years ESL teaching experience in a university setting
teaching English conversation, presentation skills, and/or technical writing.
3. Must be a native English speaker from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New
Zealand, South Africa, UK, or the USA.

II: Salary and Benefits:
1. Salary ranges from 2,400,000 to 2,700,000 won/month
2. Small class sizes 
3. 10 weeks/year of paid vacation 
4. Severance bonus (one month's salary)
5. Medical Insurance & National Pension: 50/50 split
6. Furnished apartment on campus with minimal rent.

III: Job Description:
1. 15 hours of instruction with 5 office hours per week during the Spring
and Fall terms. 
2. Instructors will be required to teach one (1) of the 6-week intensive
Winter/Summer sessions at 16 hours per week. 
3. Program management, research instructional content, prepare lesson
plans, evaluate academic progress, and attend official meetings working
with two other instructors.
4. Paid overtime (W30,000 per hour) will be provided for any additional
work (W35,000 per hour for proofreading). 
5. Applicants should have an ability to cooperate with colleagues as well
as a successful record of accomplishment in academic teaching, class
management, and student relations at the university level.
6. It should be noted that due to the nature of the program at GIST, this
position requires a strong background in academic writing/publishing.
7. Ability to use MS Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Moodle, and LaTeX is
recommended.

IV: Contract Period
1. One year, from March 1, 2009 to February 28, 2010. 
2. Annually renewable (no 'year' limits).

V: Required Documents for Application:

8. (Optional) A portfolio that shows your teaching objectives and style,
and includes sample lessons/materials and a teaching demonstration.

pre-screening/short-listing process.

VI: Successful applicants will also be required to submit (for E-1 visa):
1. Original diplomas. 
2. Two copies of original transcripts (signed/sealed) mailed directly from
appropriate universities.
3. Record of criminal background check issued within the last 3 months.
4. A health check.
5. Certified letters that prove your past and present work experience
written by respective employers (needed for salary settlement and visa
issuance).
