The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS) Berlin
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Web Address: http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de/
Job Rank: Researcher
Specialty Areas: Phonetics; Phonology; Intonation
Description:
In projects to be associated with the Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS)
Berlin, I am looking for a postdoctoral researcher or for two doctoral
student researchers in phonology/phonetics. The work includes comparative
experimental research on the intonation of German, Mandarin Chinese, and
Yoruba (with the possible addition of another language by a successful
applicant), as well as administrative duties. The money is approved until
the end of July 2009 (end of September 2009 for one doctoral student
position). Extension of the projects for three years after that is likely.
The work should begin as soon as possible. Salary and social benefits are
according to Germany's public sector TV-L E13-O scale. For the postdoctoral
position, this currently ranges between 2606 and 4033 Euro per month before
taxes, depending on formal qualification and professional experience. A
doctoral student would receive half of that.
The Berlin/Potsdam area has a lively linguistics community, with much work
also on intonation and on prosody.
Some experimental experience is required of the successful applicant.
Knowledge of statistics is a plus, as is experience with intonation, but
enthusiastic phonologists or phoneticians with other backgrounds are also
considered.
Please send your application or your questions by e-mail to Hubert
Truckenbrodt. Applications should include a CV, one or two work samples,
and names of three references (two at the doctoral student level).
Applications by qualified women are particularly welcome. Handicapped
applicants are given preference in case of equal qualification.
Application Deadline: 03-Mar-2008 (Open until filled)
