Language Policy involves any action established by a society regarding language
use and form in public contexts as determined by convention and/or laws
administered within national and local governments, the courts, the workplace,
the media, and education systems. Matters of interest to Language Planning
include policies on official language, the use and form of minority languages,
which languages will be taught in the school system, and bilingualism planning;
as well as the linguistic industries driven by the market in the process of
globalization. Under this rubric, abstracts of not more than 425 words are
solicited on such topics as:
Language Planning and Globalization
Spanish in the United States
French and English in Canada
Indigenous /Endangered/Minority languages
Languages in Contact
Pidgins and Creoles
Language Planning in Education
Policies on Bilingualism
Official Language Policy
Creoles and Standardization
Human and Machine Translation Industry
Language Planning and Human Development
Immigrant Languages
Dialects and Standardization
While papers on the main topic are particularly welcome, individuals are
encouraged to submit abstracts on any subject in theoretical and applied
linguistics.
Submit abstracts in an anonymous, titled, single-spaced attachment of not more
than 425 words in length, with name, address and affiliation in the body of an
email. Please send abstract as a camera-ready attachment (in a Microsoft Word
file, if possible) to the conference coordinator, Annika Wendt
(annikawendt at yahoo.com). Within the body of the email, please also indicate any
audio-visual equipment needed.
Those wishing to propose panels or special sessions should contact the
conference chair, Kathleen O'Connor-Bater (oconnorbaterk at oldwestbury.edu) before
submitting an abstract for the panel together with abstracts for each of the
constituent papers.
Time allotted will be 20 minutes for delivery of the paper plus 5 minutes
discussion.
Deadline for receipt of abstracts is January 15, 2008.

Meeting Description
The Fifth International Conference on Construction Grammar (ICCG-5) will be held
at the University of Texas at Austin, September 26-28, 2008. In line with the
previous International Conferences on Construction Grammar, ICCG-5 will continue
to serve as an international forum for promoting discussion and collaboration
among linguists interested in Construction Grammar and Frame Semantics, as well
as in related constructional research in its various models and applications.

Abstract Submission
Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations as well as poster
presentations. Abstracts should be no more than two pages, single-spaced,
12-font, 1-inch margins; examples should be part of the text. Please note that
the number of abstracts per author is limited to one singly-authored and one
co-authored abstract per author. Abstracts should be submitted as attachments in
PDF format (preferred) or Word format. In the header (Subject), please write
''Abstract Submission'' followed by your last name.
The following information is also requested:
1. Paper title
2. Name(s) of author(s)
3. Affiliation(s) of author(s)
4. Email address to which the notification of acceptance should be mailed
5. Contact phone and fax numbers for each author
6. Address for each author
7. Subfield(s) (e.g.: semantics, pragmatics, syntax, phonology, etc.)
8. Three key phrases characterizing the content of your abstract
9. If you prefer to present a poster rather than a regular paper, please
indicate this preference by writing ''Poster if possible'' here.
This information should be in a separate file or included as part of the body of
the e-mail message. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is February 15, 2008.
Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. The notification of acceptance will be
sent no later than March 25, 2008.
Important information for abstract submission: We will have an on-line abstract
submission system available by mid-January. The URL will be announced in the
second call for papers.
