Description:

The following position at the Department of Romance Studies in the
Humanities Division of the University of Mannheim is to be filled at the
soonest possible date:

W3 Professor of Linguistics (Romance languages) and Media Studies

The successful applicant is to be responsible for linguistics in the
Romance languages (French, Spanish, with Italian being an extra asset) and
Media Studies in both research and teaching. Scholarly focal points are
intercultural communication, communication forms in media, speech analysis,
and text linguistics. Candidates are also expected to be able to cooperate
in a cultural studies module with a transnational orientation
(International Cultural Studies) and with the development of an
interdisciplinary course of studies leading to a master's degree, Language,
Communication, Media.      

Requirements: an undergraduate university degree, pedagogical suitability,
a doctorate as well as additional scholarly achievements documented either
through further postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) or comparable
scholarly work accomplished outside academia.

The legal basis for being called to a professorship is Paragraph 47 LHG
(the state law governing higher education) of the State of
Baden-Württemberg. The position can be tenured. According to state law and
the relevant contract agreement, those called for the first time to a
professorship initially serve for a three-year qualifying period.

The University of Mannheim places high value on intensive student mentoring
and advising and thus expects a highly visible presence on campus from its
teaching staff. In the interests of strengthening the university's regional
ties, it is further expected that the successful applicant is willing to
relocate to the area.
