Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz
announces the opening of a tenure-track/tenured position. The position can
be filled at any rank up to the mid-Associate Professor level (with tenure).

For this position, the department is seeking applications from candidates
who work in experimental phonetics or formal syntax. 

The successful candidate will complement existing strengths in the
department but will also add to those strengths in new and substantive
ways. She or he will also contribute breadth and depth to the undergraduate
and graduate curricula.

The department has PhD and MA programs in theoretical linguistics focused
on syntax, semantics, and phonology, with a developing strength in
experimental methodologies. It also sponsors two undergraduate majors.

The Department of Linguistics is in the Division of Humanities, which also
includes the Departments of American Studies, Feminist Studies, History,
History of Consciousness, Language Program, Literature, Philosophy, and the
Writing Program.  The Division has a strong tradition of collaborative and
interdisciplinary work, and we especially encourage applications from
strongly qualified candidates eager to extend their teaching and research
activities across departmental and disciplinary boundaries.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research,
teaching, and service, and it particularly values those who can play
leadership roles in pursuing the goal of increasing diversity within the
campus community.

Salary:  $56,400-$73,200, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Linguistics, in hand by the time of
appointment; demonstrated record of excellence in research and in teaching.
