The workshop will be held at Glendon College, York University, Toronto, Canada from October 3-5, 2008 

2nd Call for Papers

The First North American Workshop on Pragmatics (NAWPRA) seeks submissions for presentations that address the general topic pragmatics and context and/or the three sub-topics:

1. Discourse markers/pragmatic particles
2. Contextual production and receptions factors differentiating speech and ''speech-like'' genres with contrasting genres
3. The pragmatics of language across the life-span.

Although proposals that respond to the topics suggested are highly encouraged, all submissions within pragmatics will be considered for inclusion.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Robert Harnish, The University of Arizona, and Professor Istvan Kecskes, SUNY at Albany, have confirmed their participation in the conference and will be delivering the plenary lectures.

Speakers will have 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. A selection of papers presented at the workshop will be published in an edited volume. 

The deadline for receipt of submissions has been extended to April 14, 2008.  Please provide the following information:

On one page: 
The name(s) of the author (s)
The affiliation of the author (s)
The preferred mailing address, phone number and e-mail address for notification
The title of the paper
Any equipment requirements

And, on a separate page, an abstract no longer than 300 words

Proposals will be subject to a blind peer-reviewed process. The conference official language is English, but papers in French and Spanish are also welcomed. Notification of acceptance will be send via e-mail in May 2008.

The International Conference on Semantic e-marketing and Enterprise computing: from Theory to Applications - SEEC 2008 - will be held from September 17-19 in Kerala, Cochin, SEEC 2008 is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested on information systems methods, applications in the technological advances and e-business applications of web-based information systems. SEEC 2008 will offer oral, tutorials and, professional meetings. 

Call for Papers

Submitted papers are expected to cover state-of-the-art technologies, theoretical concepts, standards, products implementation, ongoing research projects and innovative applications of the Semantic Technologies use. SEEC focuses on theory as well as real world applications; therefore authors should highlight the benefits of Web Information Systems and Technologies for industry and services, in addition to academic applications. Ideas on how to solve business problems, using web based information systems and technologies, will arise from the conference.

Best Paper Awards: Selection of the best papers will be made at SEEC 2008 based on both the technical content and presentation. The winners will be chosen by a Technical Award Committee in consultation with the International Advisory Committee.

The topics of interest include but are not limited to: Ontology management (e.g. creation, evolution, evaluation) Ontology alignment (e.g. mapping, matching, merging, alignment, mediation and reconciliation) Ontology learning Ontology population Business-oriented aspects of ontology engineering (costs, business measurements, cost benefit analysis) Semantic Web-based multimedia Semantic annotation of data Semantic Web trust, privacy, security and intellectual property rights Semantic Web representation and query languages Reasoning on the Web (e.g. scalability, fuzziness, distribution) Searching, querying, visualizing, navigating and browsing the Semantic Web Personalization and user modelling User interfaces and Semantic Web Semantic Grid and Middleware Semantic Web Services (e.g. description, discovery, invocation, composition) Semantic Web Applications for knowledge management, business, e-culture, eGovernment, eHealth, eLearning, eScience etc. Database technologies for the Semantic Web, Semantic e-business Semantic interoperability Semantic data integration Semantic Web mining ERP security and auditing issues Image processing.

Papers Submission:
Papers will be reviewed on the basis of two pages extended abstracts of sufficient detail to permit reasonable evaluation. The final version of accepted papers should be six pages long. Author kit and submission details are available on the conference's web page http://www.seec.eu
1. The authors are strongly encouraged to submit the full paper with their extended abstracts allowing thus a better evaluation by the conference reviewers.
